Just over a third of Irish electricity was generated by wind last year, new data shows

According to an analysis from energy consultants Baringa, this level of wind generation meant Irish consumers did not have to pay €2 billion for gas in 2022.

"The Government's plan to reform the planning system by putting in place mandatory timelines for decisions needs to be fully supported and we need total political backing, right across the Oireachtas, for EirGrid’s strategy to reinforce the country’s electricity grid."

If only we had a Minister for Energy, who wasnt asleep, and a Regulator who gave a sh1t about the consumers, you can be sure that electricity rates would be lower. 🙄😡

Then why the duck are we paying so much for it. The big green con. Trying to loosen planning restrictions and make it easy for developers to destroy the countryside. All in the name of being green while their coffers are being swelled.

I see Germany expanding their coal production at a time when Ireland have had to cease fossil fuel elec production….why is it ok for Germany and not Ireland to produce elec from fossil fuels? Why not re open turf elec production?

Another transfer of irish resources and wealth to the super rich.

Why the high bills then?

That's a good start. Well done!

Couple things to be done for consumer. Decouple Pricing we should be paying significantly less, wind farms having a beano also gas prices well below pre war prices yet no reduction to consumers, surely economic correspondents need to investigate

So when is the price of electric power coming down, wholesale prices have also fallen. Are the energy companies ripping us off just like pubs and hotels

€1.65 billion of gas displaced, reduced fossil fuel imports, reduced greenhouse gas emissions 👌♻️

And still paying threw the hole for it

How come we hear the cost of production of electricity is so expensive recently so ?

'Wherever you be, let your wind go free', in this case the 'wind' is not free!

It’s an ill wind that steals from the citizens of this state

Ireland could be the Saudi of wind generation, but sure hey the not in my back yard brigade will stop that.

Bollix it's a waste of money

Gawd. That wind is so expensive..

Data centers delighted with them

Did the cost of wind rise dramatically or was somebody profiteering by increased prices? Irish already paid a lot more than neighbouring countries. Why is this?
