By the time the German chancellor condemned Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas’s ‘Holocaust’ remark, the damage was done

For Olaf Scholz it was split-second decision, but he will feel the consequences for some time to come.

Instead of catching the remark and challenging it, German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit wrapped up the press conference and, after a second’s hesitation, a visibly vexed Scholz let him do so.Like every postwar German chancellor before him, Scholz, on taking office last December, knew that managing relations with Israel and Palestine would be a minefield.

Earlier in their press conference Scholz intervened when Abbas suggested Israel operates an “apartheid system”.

Sometimes there comes a time to draw a line under historical events...

Where's the lie? Maybe not internment camps but bombs missiles and murder at gates just because they're Palestinian...

Was the Palestinian wrong? He wasnt but we must not criticise Israel, we must not sanction etc 3 weeks of Russian aggression saw more backlash than 70 years of Israeli crimes The political hypocrisy is rife. Israel do genocide, they do it too well the scumbags

derspiegel Scholz hesitated because he lacks the moral integrity / instinct to say , do or act correctly ( as per his relationship with Putin). Scholz is 99% expedient duplicitous politican & 1% humanitarian. God help Germany 🇩🇪 & EU !

I can't remember Olaf being disgusted by the Israeli's murdering Palestinian children just last week? So he uses the word holocaust to describe people being murdered and we just forget about it because more people were murdered in the past. The UN needs to implement a peace plan in Israel and Palestine because the 2 countries have failed to do it. He’s dead right, why should he pander to Israel considering their decades of warcrimes Israel’s brutality is up their with the nazis, america, the bolsheviks and the Catholic Church
