The €850 wonder horse Hewick came agonisingly close to adding the French Champion Hurdle to his impressive CV at Auteuil on Saturday.
Hewick has been the horse of a lifetime for connections despite his low price tag and was looking to win his second Grade 1 of the season after winning the King George VI Chase at Kempton last December. While Losange Bleu took a tight line around the home turn, Hewick drifted towards the standside rail and stayed on strongly all the way to the line to finish second.
