750,000 social welfare claims to be reviewed as part of Government attempts to clamp down on fraud

Image: Mark Stedman/RollingNews.ie Image: Mark Stedman/RollingNews.ie THE DEPARTMENT OF Employment Affairs and Social Protection has announced it will review over 750,000 social welfare claims this year as part of its new anti-fraud strategy.

Under the strategy, which will last from now until 2023, the Department aims to save €530 million and recover €95 million in overpayments. It will also target serious fraud through a Special Investigations Unit, publicise its hotline to encourage members of the public to report cases of suspected fraud, and work with other departments and agencies to prevent fraud and non-compliance.

“I recognise that the vast majority of our customers are genuine and that there are no issues in relation to their claims, but in order to ensure that we continue to target all our available resources to those who need them most, it is essential that we combat social welfare fraud and error,” she said.

Probably undocumented migrants from the UK..!?

They might start with the 150 mill they gifted to Turas_Nua and seetec Or the 3400 each new Client that turas nua sign up.a bunch of GANGSTERS

Minister Regina Doherty has also revealed that employers’ practices in relation to bogus self-employment and PRSI will be targeted as part of the Department’s new ‘Compliance and Anti-Fraud Strategy’.

Easier clamping down on Apples tax avoidance, but they are cool with those billions

All people awarded citizenship last 20 years should have there passport full verified. All these bogus asylum seekers using multiple identities claiming benefits from our USC tax riddled payslips.

How long will this take and what is the cost of the review compared to the theoretical amount of the fraud? When can we expect a bank bailout refund cheque?

How about forcing Apple to pay the taxes they owe

Wow let’s not talk about the 13 billion we don’t want from Apple and are spending 7 million fighting a EU Commission finding and the waste of 1 billion on broadband (or gift to private company of a 1 billion investment) this Country is a shitbox!!!

It's like less than a %

Any business that is being defrauded deserves to have the right to get what's owed... But the word 'error' is... A mistake.

The money they will waste doing this will cost more than all welfare fraud combined why not use resources to create more jobs especially with 355 jobs set to be lost in ABP inTipp as a result of pure greed

Who’s trying to be Taoiseach now?

They should also sort out fraud in the Dail.

Given that unemployment rate has dropped significantly and the spend on spcial welfare has not changed it is s good idea to check that out. And check out what happened the 25 billion already borrowed this year. That's on top of the 203 billion already owed.

They’d get better returns on going after the tax frauds. This figure is less than 1% of claimants.

Spends 13million to stop collection of billions of Apple tax. 🤡😁🤡😁🤡😁

Why don't you publish anything about real corruption something about the moriartytribunal perhaps!!!!

Magic numbers , Houdini material bordering on The Matrix, and let's throw in Chuck Norris, (a bit like Regina, slap arse old school)

Look in the mirror

They should look at their own frauds firstly swinggate broadband nch

And swingate Is that being investigated ?

GOOD

But no problem with EndaKennyTD being paid for a job he doesn’t turn up for. 🙄

Some of Ireland's biggest wanker's use the comments section on the journal.

Could they start with the fraud in their own party, was MariaBaily reviewed, regarding her fraudulent claim!!! Remember Insurance Fraud cheats us all 🤤🤤🤤

Thought we had near full employment.

Let’s hope they do a good job. Time these gamers were flushed out from under their slates.

Will unwillingness to work and false sense of entitlement be taken into consideration too? Or how do you explain that half of social welfare recipients wear shoes costing 140 Euro?!?!?!?!!!

Sher, wasn't that the whole point of PPS cards? To clamp down on identity fraud. Besides, the real fraud happens in the banks and government institutions. Could save Billions in a week.

About time

Election time!!!! Instead of fixing what’s really broken.

I hope they start the checking up at our Parliament..enough fraud going on up there.
