LUTON 0-1 TOTTENHAM: Micky van de Ven scored his first goal for Spurs to send them top of the Premier League table for 24 hours but Yves Bissouma's needless red card made life far more difficult for A

Tottenham are top of the Premier League but they did it the hard way as Micky van de Ven's second half goal proved enough to overcome Luton Town on a day when Yves Bissouma was sent off for diving.

Here he was putting them in on an afternoon that was far more difficult than most at Spurs would have envisaged. Baffling Bissouma Having been thrown to the wolves by Antonio Conte last season, Yves Bissouma had won over many Spurs supporters. But there was no legislating for his daft dive. Low block problems Postecoglou insisted that his team would not change their gameplan against a side willing to sit back and counter. But up until Bissouma’s red card this was the second time that they have found it difficult to navigate past a promoted team’s low block.

Fortress weakened by finishing If a team written off from the very start is to stand any chance of surviving in the Premier League, they need to lean into their rare brand of home advantage.
