Only 41 properties were available to rent for people reliant on the Housing Assistance Payment scheme last month, with just one available at the standard HAP rate, according to The Simon Communities latest 'Locked Out of the Market' report

The report, carried out by the housing charity, looks at the rental market over three days, four times a year.

According to the report, there were 757 properties available to rent over the three days last month in which the survey was carried out – up 93% on the 392 properties available during the previous report. These were Athlone, Cork City Centre, Cork City Suburbs, Galway City Suburbs, Galway City Centre, Co. Leitrim, Limerick City Suburbs, Limerick City Centre, Sligo Town, Portlaoise, and Waterford City Centre.

"You have to put that in the context of 1,600 families in homelessness who are seeking those properties and thousands of single people looking for those properties as well," he said. Mr Stanley said that the shortage of homes available that take HAP is a combination of the overall decline in the private rental market, the number of properties available, and also increasing rents.

Allowing MoHamhead from London to claim asylum is not exactly helping now is it?

Government doing a great job, how many ministers have houses they rent?

Ffg work hard at keeping the country in the gutter and making ordinary people's life's more difficult to make a small clique even richer!

The HAP was a terrible scheme anyway, it only increased the cost of rent for everyone. It makes no sense to just give these grease ball landlords money, control the fucking rent
