More than €46 million was overpaid or wrongly claimed in pandemic unemployment payments during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Denis Naughten, Independent TD and chairman of the Oireachtas committee on social protection, said 870,000 people had claimed the PUP and those who received an overpayment represented about 2 per cent of all claims, which was “low”. The Roscommon-Galway TD said the overpayment highlighted “far broader issues” in terms of the management and review of social welfare claims.
If there was a review of every single social welfare payment made every year you would need to hire hundreds of civil servants.
That's because they were busy targeting the vulnerable child payments, removing them which was way more important to heather humphries
