) - A man was arrested after authorities say he tried to smuggle contraband into Holman Correctional Facility, in Atmore over the weekend. According to the Alabama Department of Corrections, the incident happened Saturday around 12:30 p.m., when Horace Laster arrived at the facility as a visitor.
Officials said Laster was attempting to visit inmate Akeem Prewitt, who is 15 years into a 40-year sentence for murder out of Tuscaloosa County. Laster was arrested and taken to the Escambia County Detention Facility on a total of eight charges, including trafficking meth and fentanyl, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance, first- and second-degree promoting prison contraband, prohibited activities, and attempting to commit a controlled substance crime.
