A controversial businessman and former LSD derivative seller, Alexander Stratford, faces backlash from villagers in Hertfordshire after proposing to move a historic 1,000-year-old bridleway near his luxury estate. Locals accuse him of attempting to erase local history and destroy a beloved 'green tunnel' while offering dubious safety justifications.

A wealthy chemist and former founder of a controversial firm that sold legal LSD derivatives has sparked outrage among villagers in Hertfordshire after proposing to relocate an ancient bridleway that passes near his £2.8 million mansion.

Alexander Stratford, 35, who made his fortune through Lizard Labs—a company that produced novel LSD derivatives to circumvent drug laws—has submitted plans to move a 1,000-year-old drover's route, citing concerns over farm machinery safety and privacy. However, locals argue that his proposal would not only erase a historic path used for centuries to drive livestock to market but also destroy a beloved 'green tunnel' formed by trees, a picturesque route cherished by ramblers and horse riders alike.

Critics accuse Stratford of attempting to bully villagers into accepting his changes, pointing to a skip and unsightly junk he has placed near the path's entrance, which they claim is an effort to deter users. Villagers, including parish council chairman Wayne Morris, have expressed deep frustration, arguing that Stratford—a newcomer to the area—has no right to alter a path that has been in use for over a millennium.

Morris stated, 'It's not just a simple case of moving the route a few feet. It's been a drover's route for over 1,000 years.

' Others, like villager Andrew Butler, have condemned Stratford's actions as an attempt to 'change history,' emphasizing that the majority of the village opposes the plan. Stratford held a meeting at the local pub, the Five Horseshoes, where he presented his case, offering free drinks to attendees.

However, villagers remain unconvinced, arguing that his claims about safety and privacy are unfounded, as the path has never posed a problem before. They also criticize the alternative route he has laid out through a nearby field, describing it as unsuitable for horses due to sharp surface materials that have already caused riders to fall.

Meanwhile, Hertfordshire County Council has confirmed it is conducting a 'pre-order consultation' on Stratford's application, though the proposal has already ignited tensions in a village already divided by another bridleway dispute involving a couple who bought a £1.2 million property only to discover a public right of way ran through it
