Meet the seven candidates running in Alabama's Republican primary for Lieutenant Governor.

) - Alabama’s Lt. Governor position is up-for-grabs with current Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth being term-limited. Alabama is an open primary state, meaning voters who select the Republican ballot will have the option of voting for Wes Allen , Pat Bishop , George Childress , Rick Pate , Stewart Hill Tankersley , Nicole Jones Wadsworth and John Wahl .

Wes Allen currently serves as Alabama’s Secretary of State. Before holding that office, he served as Pike Co.’s Probate Judge and as a state representative. Addressing infrastructure needs, such as fixing and maintaining bridges and roadsPat Bishop is an airborne combat veteran and currently works for the Cullman Co. Sheriff’s Office. Improving public education and the rights of parentsGeorge Childress is a community advocate who previously ran for Montgomery City Council.

Strengthening rural hospitals and community health clinicsStewart Hill Tankersley is a physician and veteran. He was appointed by Gov. Robert Bentley to serve on the Alabama Ethics Commission in 2013. Supporting small businesses and rural communities Nicole Jones Wadsworth has experience in economic development matters and commercial real estate transactions.

Expanding rural broadband, providing tax incentives for providers and innovating telehealth and mobile clinic solutions Supporting law enforcement, firefighters, military, EMS and all first responders with tools, training and respect Rick Pate currently serves as Alabama’s Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries. He also served as president of the Southern U.S. Trade Association.

Lowering and eventually eliminating the state’s income tax if the state’s revenue can support that change Investing in infrastructure projects, such as roads, bridges and broadband, especially in rural parts of the stateJohn Wahl served as Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party and left the seat to run for Lt.
