Daniel Martin Brown, 63, was arrested by Leeds Police and booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026 At the time of his arrest, Leeds Police Chief Paul Irwin told WBRC that police recovered videos and images, as well as recording devices in the home that he used to record and produce child sexual abuse material. Brown lived in multiple states, so not all of the victims were identified and the images and videos were produced over a long period of time, according to Irwin.
Police confirmed that Brown worked as a substitute teacher in Leeds for a short time. WBRC obtained his substitute teaching certificate which confirmed he was licensed to substitute in Leeds City Schools starting in January 2021. He also worked as a substitute teacher in Broward County, Florida, according to Irwin. Brown retired from the U.S. Air Force as a major and was currently a Lieutenant Colonel in Civil Air Patrol.
In January, Brown was charged with 10 counts of possession and possession with intent to disseminate child sexual abuse material, 10 counts of production of child sexual abuse material and sexual abuse of a child less than 12. At the time of his arrest in January, Irwin told WBRC that police may pursue charges with the U.S. Attorney for federal offenses.
On Tuesday, May 19, the U.S. Attorney’s Office shared that a five-count indictment had been filed in the U.S. District Court, charging Brown with four counts of sexual exploitation of children and one count of child pornography with the incidents allegedly happening between January 2014 and December 2025. Brown was indicted and the case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide inititaive launched by the Department of Justice.
