Lebanon County election director, Sean Drasher, says mail-in ballots will not be going out on September 16. "We are waiting for multiple court cases to be resolved to know what is actually on the ballot," Drasher told CBS 21 in an interview on Thursday. "Once those cases are resolved, then we'll go to testing and then we'll mail them out after." Drasher says he hopes that Lebanon County will be able to start mailing out ballots in the first week of October. However, he says for other counties that could happen sooner depending on when their ballots are complete and ready to be sent. Drasher says he's not sure how the rumor surrounding the September 16th date started. He said it has led to some confusion among people in the community and he wanted to put them to bed. CBS 21 asked the Pennsylvania Department of State when the earliest mail-in ballots could be sent out, a spokesperson replied with this statement: "September 16 is the deadline under Pennsylvania law by when counties must begin processing voters' applications for mail-in or absentee ballots of the Election Code ; 1302.1 of the Election Code ). Even if an application is approved, a voter will not receive their mail ballot until the ballot is certified, printed, and delivered by their county board of elections. The Department encourages any voter who wishes to vote by mail to submit their ballot application early by going to Voters should not be alarmed, however, if processing their application and delivering their ballot extends into the fall. Voters should also rely on the official source of information about when ballots are available – their county election office. Voters can find contact information for their county and a link to their county’s website by visiting the Contact Your County Elections Officials page on our website."There are several deadlines you need to know if you plan to vote in the November election.October 29, 2024 is the last day you can request a mail-in ballot. That ballot must be received by the election's office by 8:00 p.m. on election day.
