British-Nigerian lawyer Dr. Shola Mos-Shogbamimu faces backlash after criticizing police officers who subdued a terrorist in Golders Green, London. The incident has ignited a heated debate about police use of force, mental health, and political responses to terrorism.

A controversial anti-racism campaigner, British-Nigerian lawyer Dr. Shola Mos-Shogbamimu , has ignited a fierce debate after criticizing the police officers who disarmed a terrorist in Golders Green , London.

The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, involved Metropolitan Police officers subduing Essa Suleiman, a 45-year-old Somali-born man, who had stabbed two Orthodox Jewish men. Footage showed officers using a Taser on Suleiman before kicking him in the head and body to disarm him. While many praised the officers for their bravery, Mos-Shogbamimu condemned their actions, calling it 'contemptible abuse of police power' and questioning the use of 'excessive force' on an already incapacitated suspect.

She argued that Suleiman should have been kept alive to face justice in court, rather than being subjected to what she deemed unnecessary violence. Her comments sparked a mixed reaction, with some supporting her stance on police accountability, while others accused her of undermining the officers' actions in a high-risk situation.

Critics pointed out that the officers had no way of knowing whether Suleiman was armed with explosives or other weapons, and that their priority was to neutralize the threat as quickly as possible. One commentator wrote, 'Those officers did the right thing, for all they knew he could have been carrying explosives. The terrorist is lucky not to have been shot.

' Another added, 'Perhaps you'd rather that they be wearing soft, fluffy slippers next time they're trying to incapacitate a crazed, knife-wielding terrorist. ' Meanwhile, the victims, Shloime Rand, 34, and Moshe Shine, 76, remain hospitalized with severe injuries. Suleiman, who is now in custody, is a British citizen who came to the UK as a child in the early 1990s.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mark Rowley revealed that Suleiman had a 'history of serious violence and mental health issues' and had been referred to the government's counter-terrorism Prevent programme in 2020. The controversy deepened when Green Party leader Zack Polanski retweeted a post echoing Mos-Shogbamimu's criticism, suggesting that the police had been too heavy-handed with a mentally ill man. Polanski's retweet drew widespread condemnation, with critics accusing him of prioritizing the terrorist's wellbeing over the victims'.

A Green Party spokesman later issued a statement condemning the attack as 'an appalling act of anti-Semitic violence' and expressing solidarity with the Jewish community. However, the damage was done, with Tory MP Neil O'Brien accusing the Greens of siding with the terrorist, and Labour MP Jonathan Hinder questioning Polanski's priorities. Home Office minister Mike Tapp called the retweet 'disgusting,' while Labour MP David Taylor criticized Polanski's sympathy for the attacker.

The incident has reignited debates about police use of force, mental health in the criminal justice system, and the role of political leaders in responding to acts of terrorism. Dr. Mos-Shogbamimu, who has previously courted controversy for her views on the Royal Family, remains a polarizing figure in discussions about race, justice, and policing in the UK
