This month, District Chief Craig Flynn of the Montgomery Fire Department is marking four decades of service to his hometown. Flynn was “born and raised in Montgomery’s north side, in a small community called Charlestown,” he said. In 1986, Flynn was 26 and riding the city bus when he passed City Hall. He got off, walked into the personnel department, filled out an application and never looked back.
“The first day I started, they drilled into our heads teamwork, honor and discipline, and it just follows you through your career,” Flynn said. Flynn credits his mother for inspiring him to help people. That inspiration drove him to fight fires for 21 years. He rose through the ranks, first to sergeant, then to his biggest promotion yet: district chief.
He has held that role for 19 years.
“I enjoy getting up and coming in to work every day. It’s an honor to represent this city,” Flynn said. Suspect charged in April 11 Montgomery homicide
