Stephen Cloobeck, a former California gubernatorial candidate and founder of Diamond Resorts, was arrested in Los Angeles County on suspicion of attempting to interfere with a witness or victim in an ongoing case against his fiancée. Pictured in Beverly Hills on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024. — Stephen Cloobeck , the former California gubernatorial candidate and founder of Diamond Resorts , was arrested in Los Angeles County on Tuesday on suspicion of attempting to prevent or dissuade a victim or witness from testifying.
Cloobeck turned himself in after being notified there was a felony warrant for his arrest, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He was released the same day after posting a $300,000 bail, per the statement. Cloobeck is accused of trying to dissuade or intimidate witnesses from cooperating in the case against his fiancée, Adva Lavie, according to the sheriff’s department.
Lavie, a social media influencer, has been charged with allegedly burglarizing the homes of people she met online, according to authorities. Cloobeck and did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Lavie’s lawyer declined to comment. A real estate investor, Cloobeck, briefly ran for California governor before ending his long-shot campaign late last year.
He then endorsed former Congressman Eric Swalwell, who ended dropping out himself after being accused of sexual abuse, which he has denied. Cloobeck contributed to Swalwell’s campaign, as well as other Democratic politicians over the years. Cloobeck sold timeshare operator Diamond Resorts International Inc. to affiliates of Apollo Global Management LLC in a deal valued at about $2.2 billion in 2016.
Cloobeck’s businesses also includes a stake in CLEAR, the biometrics identity company often found in airports, according to his website.
