Nearly 13,000 runners hit the streets of downtown Cleveland for the Cleveland Marathon, and crowds lined the course to cheer them on to the finish.

The duo walked the last mile together. Jackson had collapsed from heat stroke on April 4 while training for the half marathon and spent about five and a half days in the ICU. His father said they nearly lost him. Even though Jackson wasn’t able to run, he still wanted to be part of race day.
So his dad made it possible for them to walk the last mile together. He crossed the finish line as the winner of the Cleveland full marathon, saying he came in looking for redemption after a previous marathon.
“In the last 3 miles I shut down and just fell apart,” Kocis said. “So, you want redemption and today felt like that. ” The day ended with accomplishments across the board with thousands of finishers and a father-son memory that was worth every step.
