Manufacturer Sugar Foods issued recall of Kroger Homestyle Cheese Garlic Croutons out of an abundance of caution after third-party supplier California Dairies recalled milk powder due to the possible contamination.
Croutons sold at Kroger stores across the country, including in Alabama, have been recalled due to a possible salmonella contamination. The milk powder was used in a seasoning ingredient by Sugar Foods in the production of the affected croutons sold in 17 states across the US, including Alabama. Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal injuries in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Symptoms can include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
The five-ounce packages of recalled croutons have a UPC ending with 3534 and various use by dates between Feb. 17 and April 7, 2027.
