Some would-be travellers are going through their credit card providers to get around airline refund policies.

Lucky Paras didn't have to live up to his name to get his money back from an airline. He just approached the problem from a different angle.

Paras initiated a chargeback through his Visa card provider, phoning Toronto-Dominion Bank and filing a dispute on March 31. On May 19, he got his money back."It's definitely a relief off my shoulders," he said, noting his part-time job at Bell MTS Place, home of the Winnipeg Jets, vanished after confinement measures set in.

"There is a chargeback right when services are not provided, including when they are cancelled by emergency due to government restrictions, insolvency or other exceptional circumstances," according to an online guide to dispute resolution Mastercard posted on May 1. "Overall, of course the banks don't want to hold the bag for the airlines either. That may be a motivation for some Canadian credit card issuers to be less co-operative than others."

Shouldnt have to do that. New federal rules say the passenger can refuse a credit and demand a refund that the airline can't refuse. a real government would add force to our rights. Garneau is a useless twat. One of he worst transport ministers ever.

AirPassRightsCA Good! You can’t change a refund policy after a purchase has already been made.

AirPassRightsCA Airlines “new” policies. Unsecured loan.

Consumers shouldn’t be forced to obtain legal refunds 4 services not provided by 🇨🇦 airlines throo credit card companies. The fed Gov’t has abdicated its role to protect consumer & passenger laaws... PM JustinTrudeau says 🇨🇦 follows the Rule of Law. When?...only when convenient?

Good. The airlines have been acting like their customers don't matter for decades now. Flying use to be enjoyable when I was a kid, and something our grandparents use to dress up for. If the airlines are too selfish to put customers first they can go out of business.

Hit the airlines with a load of charge back fees refunds become a more attractive alternative

Taking credit, Trump says deploying forces to DC shows how to quell protestsOfficials in the nation's capital pushed back on an aggressive response by the federal government to demonstrations over the death of George Floyd, with the mayor flatly rejecting a Trump administration proposal for the federal government to take over its police force and one Virginia county pulling its officers from Washington. Trump trolled the Rioters with the promise of Military action and they all corrected their behaviour instantly. Protesters are peaceful and respectful people; Rioters are a cancer to civilization. Didn’t he? All it shows is you can get away with brutality.
