An important global energy forecast says the world's thirst for oil will continue to grow until the 2030s and climate-damaging emissions will keep climbing until at least 2040.

, the International Energy Agency called Wednesday for "strong leadership" from governments to bring down emissions.

It forecasts that growing demand for SUVs could negate the environmental benefits of electric vehicle growth. And it says current investment in renewable energy is "insufficient" to meet the needs of growing populations, notably in cities across Asia and Africa. The IEA forecast global oil demand of 106.4 million barrels a day in 2040, up from 96.9 million last year.

The IEA's World Energy Outlook is increasingly important to governments because of its relevance to climate policy.

Cheap oil though. As long as it's under $50 a barrel. Otherwise nope.

Of course it will grow. It's a great source of affordable energy for developing nations. I don't think people realize how important cheap energy is for combating poverty. Fighting the oil industry is a 1st world obsession.

Liberals love that Saudi oil.

No shit Sherlock, 2030 and beyond.

Hmmm I own an SUV. It's 14 years old. Greatest fuel economy so I'm keeping it. Can't afford new loan payments. When they start cleaning the streets properly in my city maybe I'll switch. That is if I still have a job by then.

So Trudeau will IMPORT EVEN MORE OIL FROM CONFLICT COUNTRIES?

Except here in Canada? or are will still ok with the oil from the head choppers in Saudi Arabia ?

An den?

But cathmckenna says it’s a dying industry.

An article yesterday said demand will be increasing for fourty years or so.

Thus the reason oil companies are unloading assets for past decade including the KM pipeline to CanadianPM

Based on global population growth I think it will be a lot longer than that. Some areas of usage may decline but over the long term O$G is still going to be needed.
