Bob Woodward, facing widespread criticism for only now revealing U.S. President Donald Trump's early concerns about the severity of the coronavirus, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he needed time to be sure that Trump's private comments from February were accurate.

In Woodward's upcoming book on Trump, "Rage," the president is quoted saying the virus was highly contagious and "deadly stuff" at a time he was publicly dismissing it as no worse than the flu. Woodward, the celebrated Washington Post journalist and bestselling author, spoke with Trump more than a dozen times for his book.

The issue of daily journalists presenting newsworthy information in books isn't new. The competition for attention is intense, and headlines help boost sales and guest shots for interviews. Reporter Michael S. Schmidt of The New York Times recently attracted attention for his book, "Donald Trump v. The United States," by reporting new details on an unannounced visit by Trump to Walter Reed military hospital in November 2019.

Political figures with book deals also have been chastised for holding back timely material. Former national security adviser John Bolton, whose scathing memoir "The Room Where It Happened" came out in June, declined discussing Trump's actions towards Ukraine while the impeachment hearings were being held earlier this year.

"If I had done the story at that time about what he knew in February, that's not telling us anything we didn't know," Woodward said. At that point, he said, the issue was no longer one of public health but of politics. His priority became getting the story out before the election in November.

I like the part where Trump details the new secret atomic bomb products they have developed but was quickly erased from video tape and print due to it's ultra classified rating. In view he is President means he can see all this stuff and sometimes blurbs it all out.

Selling books.

So the fact Fauci said Trump did not misrepresent what he was told means nothing?

Prepare for a new 'bombshell' every few days until the election. Democrats can't run on policy, it's always 'orange man bad' and the media is more than happy to play along.

Can't wait to read about the confessions of treason in those pages. Because we know fake felon-loving CTV news won't be talking about it.

To sell his book

Have comments ever stopped a stopped a cult?

Dr. Fauci 'I didn't see any discrepancies between what we told [Trump] and what he told the public.' End of Woodward story

Trump would just BSed his way thought it in the early stages when the body count way a lot lower. Like Trump always dose and it most likely wouldn't have changed much is my guess

Bob Woodward says in new book that Trump admitted to downplaying severity of the coronavirusAccording to interviews for Bob Woodward’s new book Rage, U.S. President Donald Trump says he ‘wanted to always play it down' despite acknowledging he knew how deadly and contagious the novel coronavirus was No, Bob Woodward doesn't just 'say.' He's got tapes that he's made public. This tweet is misleading. This is so beyond ridiculous now. Complete dereliction of duty should be accompanied by charges. He willingly leads his country and people into a pandemic, called it a hoax and watched the bodies pile up. There are no more defenses. If you still support him, you're trash. Zzzzzz

Trump knew coronavirus was 'deadly' but wanted to 'play it down': Bob Woodward bookU.S. President Donald Trump admitted he knew weeks before the first confirmed U.S. coronavirus death that the virus was dangerous, airborne, highly contagious and 'more deadly than even your strenuous flus,' and that he repeatedly played it down publicly, according to legendary journalist Bob Woodward in his new book 'Rage.' Joe Biden has called this 'almost criminal' in CNN interview. So basically the same thing the WHO did when it was in China...

Bob Woodward’s new book Rage becomes the Trump campaign’s third gut punch in a weekThe combination of the presidential remarks about the military and the Woodward book make for a combustible mix less than two months from the election You guys know this is all.. Uh planned right? The Dems and the liberal book publishers are releasing too many too quickly. Bolton, Cohen, Tater, Woodward, niece Mary, they just blend into each other. The Globe and Mail is supposedly a Canadian newspaper but all it does is US Democrat propaganda.

‘I Don’t Want To Scare People:’ Trump Again Defends Downplaying COVID-19More than 190,000 people in the U.S. have died from COVID-19, but the president argued that the number would’ve been far higher without his actions. I think he just wanted to see how far he could take his disciples and how much they would believe anything you said even if thousands and thousands were dying next to them so now we need a montage of Trumps most 'calm' moments. eg. splice all his angry rants into a couple hour film So it is better they die in peace than do things that could save their lives? The Blood of at least 30,000 dead Americans drips from the hands of Trump and the GOP. GOP VP realDonaldTrump GOPChairwoman

Evening Update: WE Charity closing operations in Canada; Trump acknowledges playing down coronavirus severityEvening Update: O’Toole pitches Tories as ethical alternative; Trump acknowledges playing down coronavirus severity Blaspheme. I would say Team Trudeau still telling us the virus was low risk and no human to human transmission the first of March is downright negligible if not criminal. At least Trump stopped flights from China the end of January. We never did.
