Now that the second official debate of the race is out of the way, Conservative leadership hopefuls will turn their attention to signing up as many supporters as they can before a fast-approaching deadline.

The party's leadership election organizing committee says it is already breaking records for how many new members candidates have drawn in ahead of the June 3 cutoff date for new members being able to vote.

A rowdy crowd of several hundred booed and cheered throughout the night as candidates took turns lacing into each other's records, including on controversial pieces of Quebec legislation.Ottawa-area MP Pierre Poilievre repeatedly stressed his opposition to the Quebec secularism law known as Bill 21, which prohibits certain public servants in positions of power from wearing religious symbols on the job.

Grassroots Conservatives are looking for leadership candidates, who also include Ontario MPs Scott Aitchison and Leslyn Lewis, as well as Independent Ontario MPP Roman Baber, who can draw many new faces into the party, including in Quebec where membership numbers are low. Entering as the mayor of Brampton, Ont., Brown had a reputation in Conservative circles for his ability to organize from his time as leader of Ontario's Progressive Conservatives.

Quebec is a cancer. Just seen this In English or French? The majority of them are not fluently bilingual. Now there's an exercise in futility - and the potential to be funny as hell. Kudos to Mr. Obhrai for trying back then, though. Hope the new batch is at least as good. CPC_HQ

Conservative leadership candidates spar over past controversies, cost of living during only French debateDebate reveals candidates have varying degrees of proficiency in French language I wonder how much Poilievre vomited afterwards being forced to speak something other than 'anglo-saxon' Polievre performs well, but Charest looks more like a strong leader that can unite the party and bring the country on the right track in the next election. Canada is ready for that change, with Charest's political vision to build to win for a better and strong Canada.

Conservative leadership candidates meet in Quebec for party's French-language debateCandidates running for leadership of the federal Conservative party will appear on stage tonight for its French-language debate. I don't care who becomes leader of CPC_HQ aka Alberta_UCP cause in Canada we now only have 2 parties we can trust in our nation. They're liberal_party & NDP cause they aren't a radical group of fascists. Quebec should not be allowed to vote ! They do not respect or even follow Canadian laws, values or freedoms of our constitutional human rights. ' Remove their voting rights ' Good luck we need it.
