From the beginning, police called the explosion an “intentional act” after finding “suspicious items” at the scene.
The Windsor police Explosive Disposal Unit , K-9 Unit, Forensic Identification Unit and Arson Unit went to Windsor Assembly Plant as part of the investigation. Police said the investigation included testing remnants of the package found at the explosion site. Shortly after the incident, Unifor Local 444 president Dave Cassidy issued a sternly worded Facebook message to his membership.
“It is essential to make sure when our members go to work, they feel safe and secure,” Cassidy wrote. “Over the last couple of weeks, there have been some incidents going on in the plant based on anxieties. I know we have had some hard news as of late, but any lashing out in the facilities cannot and will not be accepted and needs to stop.
