With rumours that Mikael Backlund does not intend to extend with the Calgary Flames, the King Clancy finalist could be shopped for a trade.

The first hint that Backlund might be open to a move, when the fan-fave forward surprised a roomful of reporters with a non-committal answer about his upcoming contract talks.

If Lindholm is leaving, if Hanifin is headed elsewhere, if Toffoli is a goner and Chris Tanev could follow, the Flames will be further from contending for a championship. They could be forced to embrace the ‘R’ word — rebuild.
