A stretch of Highway 4 is closed in both directions east of Port Alberni due to an out-of-control wildfire.

According to the service, a wildfire is deemed out of control when it continues to spread and is not responding to suppression efforts. “Fire is highly visible from Highway 4 at Cameron Lake. Boaters on Cameron Lake should stay clear of helicopter bucketing dip sites,” it said.Two active wildfires on Vancouver Island, one declared out

Hwy #4 is closed due to a fire near Angel Rock. All traffic heading eastbound out of town is being turned back to Port Alberni. The hump will be closed until further notice. Please avoid travelling out of town until the highway is re-opened.
