This is not an opportunity the Montreal Canadiens can turn away from. (EricEngels)

is hoping for competitive offers from the Ottawa Senators and Canadiens so his wife, Melinda, can be closer to the family she misses so dearly—the Canadiens must do everything possible to come out on the winning side of that battle.

But we’re of the opinion that Karlsson, the 29-year-old Swede who has scored more points than any National Hockey League defenceman other than Brent Burns since the 2012 lockout, is still a superstar, will be a superstar for the foreseeable future, and that the Canadiens are still in desperate need of superstars.

It doesn’t matter that the Canadiens already have Shea Weber and Jeff Petry slotted into top roles on the right side of their defence. It doesn’t matter that Noah Juulsen, Josh Brook and Cale Fleury are right-handed defencemen and promising prospects who are all on their way up. It doesn’t matter that the team has needs on the left side of its defence, either.

EricEngels Look good in Tampa.

EricEngels Lock up 19M in Weber & Karlsson long term when they'll be in their 30's...this is why you're a blogger. Brennan? His article was trush & isn't a resource...far better options to bring in than Karlsson. Your idea is trading away pieces for one player...when has that ever worked?

EricEngels Yes they can. I they do go all in for Karlsson, they have to go short term with him. They also need to making place in the line up. = trading a piece or 2 because young gun are punching to make the team and Karlsson will need a spot too. ( my concern is: 'How much will it cost?)

EricEngels Suggesting they should trade Byron is INSANE

EricEngels Sure he doesn’t want to come to Toronto.. we can use a skilled defenceman like him..

EricEngels Why trade Petry? I’d say he’s better than Weber and a lot younger and with a cheaper contract. Why not move Weber? I like adding EK. Before the groin injury he was dominant. The ankle had healed.

EricEngels That would be a good move for the Habs!👍😎

EricEngels No thanks...

RyanVallyD EricEngels He needs to come home

EricEngels there is only one thing i care about with the Habs and that is MB building an organization that has the chance each year of challenging for the Cup, have to trust MB to decide if that can be done with K or better to stick with building with younger players.

EricEngels Leafs should get him, he’s only worth 7M

EricEngels I’d pass . He loses 1/2 a step and he’s done. They need help on the PP no doubt but I’d take Duchene preferably

EricEngels Not sure what part they dont get about Shaw yr after yr. He is staying. They love him. Stop it.

EricEngels If he truly wants to come to Montreal and he'd settle between 9-10, I say do it and move Petry. Sure you can't afford top end LD anymore, but you just need to shore it up with stable guys if it's Weber and Karlsson.

EricEngels I would consider trading Jonathan Drouin. You know what you get from Petry, Shaw, Byron on a nightly basis. Drouin has value, good contract, and youth that can be used to acquire the best package of assets.

EricEngels Excellent article. How about a Karlsson-Edler UFA duo in Montreal?

EricEngels Probably an unpopular opinion, but as a Habs fan, please dont do this. He will cost way more than hes worth and I personally get annoyed watching him play, he seems like a baby. Keep that cash and continue building what we have

HabsRissy

EricEngels ...“Assuming Don Brennan’s story in the Ottawa Sun checks out”... Yeahhhhhh... about thattttt....

EricEngels Hard pass. Physically declining, does not fit a need and will cost way too much.

EricEngels Don’t trade Petry s v p

HabsLinks EricEngels

EricEngels All because he has his balls in his wife’s purse!

EricEngels

EricEngels Bad fit. They need LHD, and C... not RHD.

EricEngels Money, age and health are a big concern when it comes to Karlsson, this isn't the Karlsson who won two Norris's... Habs have money and youth, no need to bring another injury plagued player.

EricEngels Eric is a scab homer and living in a dream world. Lol

EricEngels Karlsson would never sign in Montreal. He loves Ottawa too much

EricEngels Oh hell yeah!

EricEngels This surely has to be a joke 😂

EricEngels Excellent piece by Eric EricEngels. Totally agree with him.

EricEngels Yes it is. He is a terrible liability defensively.

EricEngels Have you not seen him play the last 2 years? Hard pass on him and the money he will demand.

EricEngels Elliotte F already reported he wanted to win. How on earth does MTL or OTT = winning team?

EricEngels Trade Petry, sign Karlsson and gardiner

EricEngels How to become an enemy in Ottawa, day you want to hear offers from MTL. How to become public enemy number 1 with a target in your back, sign with MTL.

EricEngels Karlsson is toxic.....like Kessel.

EricEngels They can buy out Alzner and save 3 million or so on the cap and can fit in EK (at 10) without making any adjustments this year. But with EK it would make sense to trade Petry for a power forward.

EricEngels Pass

EricEngels Honestly Eric, in my initial assessment of this rumour, I thought about signing Karlsson and flipping Petry to Philly in a package for Gostisbehere. Someone even pointed out a Petry for Leddy deal that makes sense as well.

EricEngels A+ article 👌🏻

EricEngels I agree with this EricEngels ! I’m not sure how he fits in but he’s one of the best players in the world. You have to do it.

EricEngels If they can get him, then they have to trade Petry for a LHD
