Why elections in 'the world's greatest democracy' are routinely controversial and contentious

But for a country fond of calling itself the world’s greatest democracy, the actual nuts and bolts of electing candidates seem to generate controversy remarkably often, a contrast to the calm, if rather dull, apparatus of voting in Canada. The volume of legal wrangling over elections has skyrocketed since the 2000 dispute between George W. Bush and Al Gore over presidential election results in Florida, he said.

In one case that actually led to the redo of an election for a U.S. House of Representatives seat, a Republican operative had voters request absentee ballots, then made sure they marked them for his candidate. Trump revived the fraud issue in the lead-up to last Tuesday’s election, claiming without evidence that an expansion of mail-in balloting implemented in response to the pandemic would open the door to broad abuse.

Nice try - you missed or purposely ignored the fact that some states have well designed vote counting systems with good controls - harder to commit fraud ( eg. Florida which redesigned it after 2000 ) versus other states that dont ... and are more vulnerable to possible fraud
