There will be a WHL outdoor game this season for the first time since 2011.

The Regina Pats will host the Calgary Hitmen at Mosaic Stadium, home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, on Oct. 27. The Calgary Flames and Winnipeg Jets will play at Mosaic in the NHL’s Heritage Classic on Oct. 26.

While it will be the third outdoor game in WHL history, it will be the first one since 2011. That year there were two games, with the Pats beating the Hitmen 3-2 at McMahon Stadium, home of the Calgary Stampeders, and the Spokane Chiefs crushing the Kootenay Ice 11-2 at Avista Stadium in Spokane. The Pats’ win over the Hitmen was played in front of 20,888 people, which is the largest crowd in WHL history. The Flames shut out the Montreal Canadiens 4-0 that same weekend in the Heritage Classic.
