A lot went right for the Blue Jays in 2021 and yet they are on the outside of the playoffs looking in. ArdenZwelling looks at some areas where the team fell short and some lessons that can be learned heading into 2022.

But those reinforcements didn’t arrive soon enough. Even though the Blue Jays jumped the trade market by acquiring both weeks prior to the deadline, too much damage had been done. Of the dozen games the Blue Jays lost this season when leading in the seventh inning or later, nine came in May and June. Not being where you're supposed to be. Not being home,” Springer said. “Once we understood that when we got [to Toronto] we weren't going anywhere, I think you saw a lot of guys just breathe and relax. Not have to be concerned about how to get their families from A to B and their stuff from A to B. We were able to just get here and play. Get to the park and enjoy it.

ArdenZwelling Here's an idea. We,the fans, hv been ask'g for help/chng frm FO ALL YR espec'ly bullpen help..1, getting rid of Thornton etc. I venture to guess that Thornton ALONE lost (conservatively) 8-9 gms for J's. So there's that.

ArdenZwelling get rid of Grichuk, resign Semien and Ray. trade for Jose Ramirez. sign Kershaw to 1 year deal. Get bullpen help

ArdenZwelling Didnt play at home for a huge majority of the season plus they blew a lot of saves too. Those are the 2 main reason's as to why Toronto didnt make it in.

Scott Stinson: Blue Jays can find reasons to keep Charlie Montoyo, and reasons to move onJays fans could be forgiven for surveying the MLB playoff field and wondering how in the world their team did not manage to be a part of it Yeah I was calling for his head earlier in the season but mabye I was too harsh. This team wasn't ready to win this year and he did get this team playing well at the toughest part of the year so I would keep him another year and see I think he should have been up front when the Baltimore manager was in Ray’s face and should have been on the umps for their strike zone in Tampa - personally I’d like to see a little more Pete Walker type passion in those scenarios.

Blue Jays eliminated from playoff contention after Red Sox rally - Sportsnet.caThe Toronto Blue Jays have been eliminated from playoff contention. While the Blue Jays did their part to advance to a tiebreaker by completing a sweep of the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday, wins by Boston and the New York Yankees ended Toronto's hopes. ShiDavidi TD_Canada What a season .. gonna be hard to top this .. but if any team could ... ShiDavidi TD_Canada The two midweek losses to Yankees hurt. As did the 12-15 record in one run games and the 3-9 record in extra innings. Excl the bizarre 2020 season, a team with a run differential 120 has never missed the playoffs since the current Wild Card format began in 2012. Jays were +183.
