Toronto has a lot of fun on offer for the first weekend of December. Here’s a sampling of what’s on.

Twinkly lights, handcrafted goods and carnival fun will be making a return to Nathan Phillips Square as part of the month-long Holiday Fair in the Square. Starting at 4 p.m. Friday, a wide variety of vendors will set up outside city hall, selling anything from classic Tiny Tom doughnuts to alternate reality games to Christmas cookies.

Other attractions include a holiday bar by the fire, photos with Santa, a carousel, carnival games and live entertainment for all ages. Attendees can expect performances from choirs, carolers, stilt-walkers, magicians, brass bands and costumed winter characters. The market and carnival will run until Dec. 23, every day except Mondays. Hours are 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, noon to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. on Sundays. Admission is free. More information can be found atPokemon fanatics will find themselves at home at this weekend’s regional championships. Trading card and video game players from across the city and even the country will be competing at the Enercare Centre for up to $50,000 in scholarships and prizes.

The coveted title of Pokemon Regional Champion is up for grabs, as well as championship points that count towards an invite to next year’s global tournament. The event begins Friday at noon with multiple battles and seminars taking place over the three days. Admission ranges from $10 to $73, depending on the kind of ticket.
