If parents contract COVID-19 they should plan for the emergency care of their children that doesn’t include elderly grandparents, but prevention by physical distancing and hand-washing is still paramount, say experts.

, a faculty member with the School of Public Health and Health Systems at the University of Waterloo in Ontario.

Kids are unlikely to contract the virus and experience severe symptoms, based on global data. Unlike many other viruses, children don’t appear to be as impacted as people over 60. But that doesn’t mean that parents won’t worry and shouldn’t worry. “If they do fall ill, we don’t want to just discount it,” said Jandu. “We still want to pay attention to their signs and symptoms and make sure they're on a good course of recovery.

But the help should not come from grandma and grandpa. There is still much to learn about the novel coronavirus, but one of the most certain aspects of the disease is that people over the age of 60 are the most vulnerable, particularly those with pre-existing conditions. The virus can be transmitted by asymptomatic people, including children, who tend to have mild symptoms or none at all.

Family of woman who died from COVID-19 calls for uniform policy on hospital visitationsShould patients who are critically ill with COVID-19 be allowed visitors? Hospitals across the country are grappling with the question, and the family of one of the latest victims of this disease is begging for a national policy. I would like to see the hospitals allow someone designated to be able to go in with a laptop or something and allow families to have a virtual visitation or something. But no, families should not be allowed into the hospital itself. There actually is no visitation at hospitals right now People forgot that we are on crisis and it is not the time to play with the lives of people around.

Experts look to rates of hospitalization, ICU admission to predict COVID-19 curvePublic-health officials, infectious disease experts and provincial data show that B.C.'s and Alberta’s efforts to flatten the curve may be starting to pay off. By contrast, Ontario and Quebec appear to be in an uphill battle ☹️ that might work in countries with universal health care, it won't work in the USA where perhaps 100 million people no longer can afford a doctor bill much less a hospital stay, as such millions could die in that country before any 'flattening' will occur Alberta and B.C. have similar populations. Quebec and Ontario also have similar populations. Ontario has had a high number of travellers in and out. Ontario testing has lagged.
