Wet’suwet’en elected chiefs call on Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister to resign over proposed agreement with hereditary chiefs GlobeBC

Crown-Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett takes her seat as she wait to appear before the Indigenous and Northern Affairs committee in Ottawa, Tuesday, March 10, 2020.The elected leadership of several First Nations split over a natural gas pipeline in northern British Columbia are calling for the immediate resignation of Crown – Indigenous Relations Minister Carolyn Bennett.

“This lack of proper consultation and secrecy means the governments are acting in bad faith contrary to the Honour of the Crown.” But hereditary house chiefs say the company has no authority to build the pipeline through their territory without their consent, and their opposition sparked demonstrations and blockades that shut down large parts of the national economy in February.

GlobeBC Her job or a deal? She is the person the government hired to talk and did nt talk? So not avoiding blockades which cost Canada billions? What's going on we need to give her a bailout what she is great journalists? Must be the University

GlobeBC Absolutely.

GlobeBC Just bring 💰💰💰

GlobeBC Seems to me if we let these folks resolve it themselves, there'll be no oil left to ship.

GlobeBC And well they should. Bennett is a tired Toronto centric bourgeoisie Liberal with little to no local links to BC. She just sold out the elected chiefs like a toddler throwing away a toy. What a honourless capitulation to threats made by this Minister.

GlobeBC Is this a civil war among first nations?

GlobeBC We follow the Hereditary Chiefs of Wetsuweten. Nobody else. This will never change. Clear enough?

This is not only disturbing but disgusting that the healthcare system is so inept.
