Earlier Wednesday, WestJet cancelled more than 30 flights ahead of a possible strike, leaving thousands of passengers scrambling."We recognize the impact the initial cancellations had on our guests and our people, and we sincerely appreciate their patience and understanding during this time," said WestJet president Diederik Pen.

Scott Christopherson, a spokesperson for the union, confirmed that both parties have agreed to return to the bargaining table, and said talks would resume next week.Union members had voted overwhelmingly to reject a tentative deal last week and opposed the airline's request for arbitration this week.
