Rain and wind warnings remain in effect for much of Newfoundland and Labrador's coasts, while rain warnings are in place for eastern Nova Scotia.
Newfoundland RCMP said early this morning a washout on the Trans-Canada Highway in Port aux Basques had left both lanes impassable, and the Department of Transportation was on scene assessing the damage to the roadway. Environment Canada has issued a rainfall and wind warning for the Port aux Basques area, saying another 70 to 100 mm of rain could fall, or as much as 150 over higher terrain, with gusts up to 110 km/h. The town usually gets about 160 mm of rain, on average, during the entire month of November."Residents are required to shelter in place until further notice," the county said on Twitter.
"Provincial Department of Public Works is currently assessing roads and bridges for safety. Crews are working hard, so please stay home, and let them do their job." Environment Canada says a total of 100 to 150 millimetres of rain could fall across eastern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton by late Wednesday.A surfer heads to the water in Cow Bay, N.S. on Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021.
