Weather: Heavy wildfire smoke conditions expected to return to capital region Wednesday, Thursday

Shortly before 11 a.m. the agency warned “high levels of air pollution will develop … due to smoke from forest fires.”After a short reprieve, winds are expected to bring heavy smoke conditions back the the capital on Wednesday.

But that is expected to deteriorate through the day, rising to “high risk” by 4 p.m., up to status 9, on the 10-level scale, ‘high risk’ by 4 p.m.Forest fire smoke from northern Ontario and Quebec has been blowing through the capital area for several weeks, prompting several special air quality warnings.Article content

On Sunday, major events such as the Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival and the Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival closed early as a precaution.
