Ottawa says there are 248 Canadians, including one crew member, on the cruise, which is operated by Holland America. Healthy passengers were being transferred on Saturday to another Holland America ship, the MS Rotterdam. Ms. Joiner said she has a mild cough so she and her husband remain on the Zaandam.
Holland America said it is working with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as it transferred healthy passengers to the Rotterdam. The company said passengers with inside cabins and those over 70 years old were given priority. On March 9, two days after the Zaandam departed, the Canadian government recommended against all cruise ship travel and has since urged all Canadians travelling abroad to return home as quickly as possible.
I feel horrible for these people. Less time being punitive towards them and more time being hopeful and positive would help. hang in there cruise ship residents...we will get past this.
At least they have masks. We in Canada can not buy them anywhere. Other countries are giving ppl masks for free, like Spain and France just ordered 1Billion from China. Also their Chanel will make them to help. Just plain and simple ones. Masks work.

Man oh man...I agree, not the smartest choice to get a cruise ship, but based on what was going on with other ships already stranded there's no way this cruise should have been allowed to leave. Some of the comments here are disgusting.

I think it is time to STOP bringing Canadians home from cruise ships. Anyone on one now must have started their cruise after the Covid19 hit North America. There was lots of warnings to stay away from cruise ships.

I feel really terrible for these people, but almost everyone I know has lost money because they had to cancel trips. A lot of companies are giving cash vouchers to allow for travel later. I am pretty sure the government had issued a warning NOT to get on a cruise ship.

A few weeks ago I could have taken a vacation. I didn’t because I was informed about the nature of what was going on in the world with regards to this virus. I stayed home.
