In an attempt to help bolster local industry, the powers that be in the archipelagic nation of the Philippines are coming down hard on auto smugglers. No, literally, the Philippines’ Bureau of Customs are crushing cars that attempt to cross their borders unlawfully.
The latest “warning to smugglers” comes in the form of a flattened Ferrari 360 Spider that went under the crusher in Manila after its importers tried to avoid taxes by purposefully removing certain crucial pieces and claiming it was being brought in for “auto parts,” and not as the valuable, drivable rare vehicle it actually is.
The used blue V8 sports car, estimated by the Philippine Star to be worth around 7 million Philippine pesos , was shipped in May and flattened by bulldozer this week.
