Washington Capitals senior vice president and general manager Brian MacLellan announced that the club has re-signed defenseman Martin Fehervary to a three-year, $8.025 million contract.The 23-year-old registered six goals and 10 assists for 16 points in 67 games, averaging 20:00 of ice time. Fehervary led all Capitals skaters with 217 hits; he also racked up 128 blocked shots, tied for second on the Capitals with Nick Jensen.

Fehervary was initially selected No. 46 overall by the Capitals in the 2018 NHL Draft. The Bratislava, Slovakia product made his pro debut in 2019-20, registering one assist in six games. He added 14 points in 56 games with the Capitals’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Hershey Bears. In 2020-21 the following season, he collected 17 points in 24 games and was ranked second among Bears defensemen.

He pivoted to a full-time role with the Capitals in 2021-22, appearing in 79 games and notching eight goals and nine assists for 17 points in that frame while racking up 251 hits and 117 blocked shots. He appeared in six Stanley Cup Playoff games that season. Throughout his NHL career thus far, he has collected 34 points, 63 penalty minutes, 247 blocked shots and 482 hits in 152 games.

Before going pro in North America, Fehervary spent time in Sweden, playing for the prestigious HV71 program of the Swedish Hockey League . In 2018-19 he notched seven points in 45 games and added three assists in nine SHL Playoff games. Internationally, Fehervary has represented Slovakia at multiple stages, including the World Championships, World Juniors and Under-18 World Junior Championships.
