Posted: Dec. 1, 2022 5:36PMThe rate of Victoria commuters who primarily walk or bike to work is higher than in any other major city in Canada, new census data shows.Wednesday, shows that around 1 in 20 commuters “regularly biked to work in 2021, by far the highest rate” out of Canada’s 41 biggest cities.
Those modes of active transportation add up to a rate of around 15 per cent, making Victoria’s commuters the most physically active of any major city in Canada. And it’s not even close, nearly doubling the rate of commuters who walk or bike in cities like Vancouver and Montreal. “We’re ahead of everybody in Canada, but we should also take a look at the larger, the global picture and go, wait a second, where do we actually need to be?”
Having just been to Amsterdam I’m completely baffled why cycling advocates in yyj hold it high regard for biking infrastructure. Yes, tons of bikes on the ROAD along with cars, trucks, scooters, buses, street cars, etc.
For the amount of money we spent on bike lanes in Victoria, we could have hired rickshaw drivers to provide free rides for commuters for 200 years and wouldn’t have to alter roads so bicyclists didn’t have to obey the rules of the road.
Don’t listen to bicycle advocates. They have caused millions of tax dollars in foolish spending. They spend the money so that they don’t have to obey the rules of the road. Amsterdam is much different. They don’t tear up 400 year old roads like we tear up 100 year old ones.
