UPDATED: VIA Rail cancels all trains across Canada over pipeline protest

The company said Thursday afternoon that it “has no other option” than to cancel all train service effective immediately. Via Rail passengers with bookings will receive automatic refunds.

The nationwide shutdown comes as CN Rail says it is being forced to progressively shut down its operations in Eastern Canada “until the illegal blockades end.” The company said that also means stopping all transcontinental trains across its Canadian network. Ruest added that commuter rail link services such as Metrolinx and Exo can continue operating “so long as they can do so safely.”

CN Rail said it has sought and obtained court orders and requested help from enforcement agencies for the blockades in Ontario, Manitoba and B.C. It says that, while the blockades have ended in Manitoba and may be “imminently” ending in B.C., the court orders in Ontario “continue to be ignored.”

Good

They should sue the Wet’suwet’en First Nation for all losses incurred. Set an example of consequences for the future

JohnGormleyShow Good thank your boy vacation king Justin Trudeau your little tyke will be right on this right after his Barbados vacation

Work on the pipeline began today with a mainly aboriginal work force. While the rest of Canada is about to see job loss it is nice to see the people who started all of this star building the thing they oppose and get paid well to do it.

JohnGormleyShow Our police seem incapable of doing police work and upholding our laws against terroristic activities. Someday, maybe when people have had enough, will get off out collective asses and take this land mass known as Canada back.

JohnGormleyShow Choke them out

I can’t believe this. I am so dissapointed by these protesters and our federal government.

Still trying to figure out what this even has to do with the east.

Where will this end?

Not sure if CN and Via already have injunctions why we are letting protesters shut down our economy

JohnGormleyShow Where's our leadership? Crickets...disappointing.

Well. I learned at a very young age that a train needs a long time to stop. So me thinking of they see a train coming. Chances are they will move

A victory for the unemployed communist everywhere ! 👏🏻

Considering how these trains operate, they should consider never starting up again if they *really* support these protests.

Strong leadership is lacking in Canada. Enforcement of the law is apparently not even possible anymore.

CTVAtlantic Keep those blockades going, never ever give up, Trudeau and his government is the failure of reconciliation.

It's like this and like that

Who is running Canada? We are leaderless. No one at the helm.

So the Deputy Prime Minister is not on duty either- or else she is taking orders from the PM to not intervene or is she muzzled like the RCMP and the Justice System -perhaps NATO has to be called in to restore law and order because Canada is out of control

Butts plan to hold back Liberal comments and action were to cause PC premieres to look like aggressive people by using Prov police to act on crown issues. Backfired! Seamus couldn’t get away after veterans boondoggle, now he’s quagmired in train stops through non Indian blocks.

Sunnyways it’s your move.

RIP it down..jail the burners..projectile for the PM

Meanwhile JustinTrudeau and the liberal_party choose cowardice over country and theJagmeetSingh and the NDP continue to sell out Canadians and our country in support of them

Justin Trudeau helps close down jobs in Canada. however he is over seas promoting coal jobs and oil jobs...

Sue the protesters. Blockade them.

Wtf

JustinTrudeau liberal_party need to take immediate action and let the OPP and RCMP do their jobs and remove all illegal blockades!

Great job JustinTrudeau and the liberal_party! Canada is more divided then ever before. No rule of law exists!

Meanwhile JustinTrudeau and the liberal_party choose cowardice over country and theJagmeetSingh and the NDP continue to sell out Canadians and our country in support of them

Good move. Before it was the west who suffered, couldn’t get products to market. Liberals could care less. Now it’s hitting Eastern Canada, so the Liberals might actually do something.

Fitting, since they voted for Trudeau again, they can reap the rewards.

Who in the hell is running this country?

But JustinTrudeau is off in foreign countries again, busy trying to build up his international reputation! He obviously doesn't much care about important domestic issues like having NO rail service in Canada! Wow!

Good Now let’s get RID of PMJT
