Calls for decriminalization have grown louder as overdose deaths have shattered records across the country, driven for the most part by an illicit drug supply that has become exceedingly toxic

Decriminalization is not legalization. Personal possession and use of small amounts of illicit drugs would no longer be subject to criminal penalties, such as jail time, but perhaps to administrative penalties such as fines. The manufacturing and trafficking of illicit drugs would remain illegal. In 2001, Portugal decriminalized the purchase, possession and consumption of all psychoactive drugs for personal use, defined as 10 days' worth for an average person.

The police department has had a policy in place since 2003 of not responding to overdose calls unless requested by paramedics and recommends few charges for simple possession in the absence of more substantive offences such as break-and-enter or assault. “Insite is a very secure place to go into because there’s no question about the law. I think it’s about changing people’s behaviour. It’s about changing police behaviour, it’s about changing the public’s behaviour, it’s about changing the behaviour of people who use drugs. I think it’s subtle, but it’s a very strong signal.”

It's good Vanc.&its Health Officer Dr. Daly prefer saving lives to pandering to druggie-hating wingnuts. BUT Vanc. & Dr. Daly, when it comes to COVID, endanger lives by refusing to make masks mandatory, prefering to pander to irresponsible anti-mask loonies & wingnuts. Puzzling.

Doesn't stop the killer fake Fentanyl. The crisis was self created. The feds tightened up on the legal drug supply which caused the fake stuff to proliferate. Now they feel guilty. We were better off in 1900 when everything was legal, morphine, opium tincture, cocaine.

Let’s do like Colorado and legalize Meth, psychedelic mushrooms, cocaine and opioids and Fvck everything in one-shot🤔

the world is heading towards uncharted territory- massive legislative changes and freedoms coupled with massive restrictions and never seen before tightness of dingume. should we really open it up so quickly and swiftly? what is the intent? a social experiment? on whose expense
