The Vancouver Canucks have announced the signing of defenseman Christian Wolanin to a two-year contract. The deal is two-way, meaning he can be sent down to the minors needing having to pass through waivers. The contract carries an AAV of $775,000.“Christian has been a key contributor at both the AHL and NHL level this season,” said Allvin. “He has developed nicely under the watchful eye of our Abbotsford coaching staff and player development team.
In three years at UND, Wolanin scored 22 goals and 72 points in 109 games played. He made his NHL debut as he played 10 games for the Senators in the 2017-18 season and was regarded as one of the team’s best defense prospects. Wolanin’s development was stunted by a couple of factors. He injured his shoulder causing him to miss most of the 2019-20 season and like many people had his career affected by the onset of COVID-19. The Senators cut ties with him during the 2020-21 season, trading him to the Los Angeles Kings for Mike Amadio.
