HANTSPORT, N.S. — Matt Balsor is on the homestretch of a farewell tour to say thank you to the people that made his 25 years of singing so special.

Balsor knew many, if not all, of the 30 people attending the show and referred to them by their names while on stage. He interacted with the audience during intermission, signing autographs and posing for photographs. Balsor was nine years old when he entered a talent contest hosted by Frank Spinney at Atlantic Theatre Festival in Wolfville. He sang Hank Williams’ Hey, Good Lookin’ and Marty Robbins’ Singing the Blues.

Balsor has played with a few different bands during his career, but the Hilltop Show Band has been with him for the past dozen years. “I have been fortunate that a hobby has turned into a business, but I never treated it as a job,” he said. “If you make money at something that you love doing that’s a bonus.”

“You’re going to hear songs from the legends like George Jones and Merle Haggard and Gene Watson,” he said. “You’re going to hear the steel guitar, … you’re going to see rhinestones and bright lights. It’s going to take people back to country music of the ’60s and ’70s and the ’80s.”
