By 5 p.m. repairs were undeway and water was expected to be be brought back online Wednesday evening, Nova Scotia Health spokeswoman Carla Adams said. However, water will not be drinkable for 24 hours afterward as a precaution. Some patients were being relocated while repairs were being made, and all elective and non-urgent surgeries were canceled and rescheduled. The total number should be available Thursday, Adams said.

The emergency department remained open, but patients without emergency concerns were asked to go to another ER or a virtual/community access point. Four ambulances had been redirected to Dartmouth General Hospital as of 5 p.m.
