The fire is burning in rugged terrain and is currently out of control. Firefighters are on the scene, supported by a helicopter, while no immediate threat to infrastructure or homes has been reported.

The Shovelnose Creek fire, as BC Wildfire Service calls it, has grown to 15 hectares. Next update will be this afternoon.The fire was reported May 13 at 3:30 p.m., according to Julia Caranci, fire information officer with the Coastal Fire Centre.

The blaze is 20 kilometres down the Squamish River Forest Service Road, which is northwest of Squamish. It is “burning in steep and very rugged terrain that is difficult to access,” Caranci said. Its status is currently out of control, which means the wildfire is continuing to spread and is not responding to efforts to put it out. A helicopter is assisting with bucketing.This fire is suspected to be human caused.
