The union representing employees at Veterans Affairs Canada says the department should bring in a permanent solution to the backlog of veterans waiting for services and benefits.

Union president Virginia Vaillancourt says temporary resources will not fix long-standing problems and that the department needs to hire more permanent employees.

The parliamentary budget office said Monday that Veterans Affairs Canada can clear its backlog of disability benefit applications in a year if it hires nearly 400 more people The number of pending applications for benefits had reached almost 50,000 by the end of March, up from about 21,000 three years earlier.Veterans Affairs Canada says it is increasing the number of people processing the applications and also simplifying the process to to avoid another backlog down the road. This story was produced with the financial assistance of the Facebook and Canadian Press News Fellowship.

JustinTrudeau hates Canadians especially Veterans. 🖕🏽🖕🖕🏾🖕🏿🖕🏻🖕🏼👨🏿

You’re asking for more than we can give at this time. We have to make sure everyone in Timbuktu gets their vaccines first.

If they took the letters “ion” from union they’d get showered with borrowed tax dollars

Sorry they to busy sending money overseas to help those who served

There’s some good news in here that they’re hiring more people. The problem is that they don’t personality test to see who actually give a shit about other human beings. Refusing coverage for a leg or other assistance is just evil. A lot of bad staff in VAC.

When you have to send the first two years fixing 10 years of mismanagement, it takes time .

I believe the union is asking for more than JustinTrudeau has to give ... He made that quite clear. SuckItUpButtercup

OUR VETS HAVE BEEN FIGHTING LIB/CONS FEDERAL GVMNT FOR YEARS IN COURT. TIME FOR REAL CHANGE IN OTTAWA. VETS WROTE THE DISABILTY POLICY FOR PEOPLESPARTYOFCANADA ITS ABOUT TIME THEY GOT WHAT BELONGS TO THEM & FIX THIS MESS.

No government cares about us! They all fuck us VETs! CERB is higher than our 20 year pension! Think about that! If they pass a basic household income, it will be higher than what most VETs make after serving our country!

Sorry, just asking for more than we can give

I do not believe that the permanent solution at VAC is more staff. I believe the dept has a systemic problem dating back decades.

Good luck. Trudeau doesn't care about veterans. He's made that very clear.
