that 18 million people in Africa's Sahel region face severe hunger in the next three months, citing the impacts of Russia's war in Ukraine, the coronavirus pandemic, climate-induced shocks and rising costs.

The largest number of people are at risk of severe hunger across the region since 2014, and four countries -- Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali and Niger -- are facing "alarming levels," with nearly 1.7 million people facing emergency levels of food insecurity there, the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said Friday.

"The situation is definitely going to get worse before it gets better," he told reporters in Geneva. "We may see more people trying to make ends meet by migrating: It's a very, very likely possibility." "A combination of violence, insecurity, deep poverty and record-high food prices is exacerbating malnutrition and driving millions to the fringes of survival," Martin Griffiths, the head of OCHA, said in a statement.

UN chief 'hopeful' of Ukraine grain deal to help food crisisWith global hunger levels at a new high, the United Nations chief said Wednesday he is in 'intense contacts' with Russia and other key countries hoping for an agreement to allow the export of grain stored in Ukrainian ports and ensure Russian food and fertilizer have unrestricted access to global markets. George Monbiot: ‘On a vegan planet, Britain could feed 200 million people’ We have no food crisis. We have more educating with money than knowledge taking place. It’s dumbing down. Terrible change. At what point does the US take a true stand and end this war? Russia already thinks it is fighting the west, and is showing weakness in military capabilities. Not sure its nukes really work. US has nukes as well. Time to end this
