The U.S. Senate on Sunday passed a sweeping $430 billion bill intended to fight climate change, lower drug prices and raise some corporate taxes, a major victory for President Joe Biden that Democrats hope will aid their chances of keeping control of Congress in this year's elections.

After a marathon, 27-hour weekend session of debate and Republican efforts to derail the package, the Senate approved the legislation known as the "Inflation Reduction Act," by a 51-50 party line vote, with Vice President Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking ballot.

"To Americans who’ve lost faith that Congress can do big things, this bill is for you," he said. "This bill is going to change America for decades." Nevertheless, Democrats hope its passage, ahead of an August recess, will help Democratic House and Senate candidates in the Nov. 8 midterm elections at a time when Biden is suffering from anaemic public approval ratings amid high inflation.

Republicans, arguing that the bill will not address inflation, have denounced the measure as a job-killing, left-wing spending wish list that could undermine growth when the economy is in danger of falling into recession. The bill passed after Democrats defeated a Republican effort to extend a cap on state and local tax deductions that could have undermined support among Democrats from northeastern states.

In a foreshadowing of the coming fall election campaign, Republicans used their amendment defeats to attack vulnerable Democrats who are seeking re-election in November.

Printing Presses.....GO.

A MUST for many countries to do more NOW about climate change no more just talk!!

When there will be snow in the summer and thunderstorms in the winter, THEN there will be climate change.

Aka lining their pockets to enrich themselves and not giving a fuck about any of us 🤷🏻‍♂️

This is economics 101. If you have an inflation problem you print more money, easy peasy.

The bill in a nutshell. Taking from one industry and passing that increase to consumers so they can subsidize the other.

Gotta love the headlines always misleading people. $430 billion ain’t only going to fight “climate change” and reduce drug costs (which is BS) . Gonna have tons of nonsense spending that won’t make headlines .

Typical WEF piece of 💩 .

Because nothing reduces inflation like more record level government spending🤦‍♂️

And build oil infrastructure. You forgot that part.

Opinion | Why does Canada keep propping up Big Oil amid climate crisis?Legislators on Capitol Hill will soon vote on the biggest climate crisis bill in U.S. history. But the U.S. bill has sparked criticism in Canada of this country’s shortcomings in its fight against climate crisis. Opinion by David Olive. Because gatekeepers. Or something. There's certainly more that we could be doing but fossil fuels dominate Canada's economy to a much greater extent than the US's. And almost all of our energy exports go south of the border, so let's not give them too much credit. Toronto Star, I read this column,
