The gathered contraband included that seized and recovered during 27 interdictions of suspected drug smuggling vessels by 10 U.S., Dutch and Canadian ships.

When an interdiction occurs at sea, the suspect vessel is detected and monitored by allied, military or law enforcement personnel, the statement reports. The Coast Guard then leads the boardings and interdictions. The hefty haul was thanks to inter-agency cooperation, said Vice Adm. Steven Poulin, the Atlantic area commander for the Coast Guard, extending special thanks to partners like Canada and the Netherlands.Article content
