Canada’s biggest hope for a medal since Simon Whitfield won gold in Sydney 2000 and silver in Beijing 2008 turned out to be a nope, finishing 15th, the same…

But it was “only” 27 degrees and “only” 79 per cent humidity for the Monday morning 6:30 a.m., start, diving into 30C water at Odaiba Marine Park in the shadow of the iconic Rainbow Bridge in the Olympic triathlon.

Organizers of the Aug. 26 World Triathlon Championships, just given the OK to put up the temporary bleachers and have fans in the stands and around the river valley course, had huge hopes of being able to celebrate a Canadian medal winner.“I came here to win and to be honest anything else I would have been disappointed with. This is just gut wrenching,” said Mislawchuk.

“As a team we did exactly everything we said we were going to do. I had a good swim. I was in the lead group. We controlled everything we could control and it just wasn’t there. But now there’s an Olympic champion in Kristen Blummenfelt of Norway, the first from his nation ever to win an Olympic medal in the sport, who ran a race to be remembers and then proceeded to upchuck on international TV when he crossed the finish line after his incredibly gutsy run.

Did anyone else try and watch this in CBC? They skipped the entire swim, then showed 5 mins of cycling before cutting out again to show the end 5 mins. Maybe of they stopped the endless athlete profiles and 'in the studio' segments, we could watch some olympics.

Nice headline for him to frame…how about “valiantly finishes…”?
