A judge has ordered two of the girls charged with murdering a homeless man in downtown Toronto to remain in custody ahead of trial.
Earlier, the judge ordered that one of the girls be transferred to an open custody facility for youth from a secure facility. On Tuesday, the judge ordered the other girl also be transferred to an open facility. There is very little the Star can publish about the girls or the evidence heard at their bail hearings. This is because the information is covered by publication bans that protect the identity of young people charged with criminal offences and prevent the release of most of the information discussed in the hearings. That means the Star is only able to say what the judge’s decision is on bail and the conditions for each youth if they are released.
The case against the girls has yet to be tried in court and they are presumed innocent pending trial.
Why do you insist on describing Ken Lee as homeless? He wasn't killed because he was homeless. The girls were harassing a woman and he tried to help her. He was killed because he was kind. Insisting on labelling him as homeless is pathetic sensationalism.
Those are the kids with the absent parents who cannot have sway over their own children. They were likely not able to convince the court that as sureties they could keep their child from breaking rules. Sad , we all pay for their failures as parents. They should be punished too.
Good.
Let them rot
Good! Big Bertha needs some new playthings.
